Kilmer's ranch for sale: What does it mean?
Posted 4/20/2009 12:39:00 AM

In the context of his consideration of the 2010 gubernatorial race, what does it mean that actor Val Kilmer is selling the Pecos ranch he calls home? Maybe not much. But it’s difficult to say.
Kilmer has been trying, unsuccessfully, to sell pieces of the ranch -- but not his home on the ranch -- for some time. Now the Wall Street Journal reports that he has put the entire, 6,000-acre ranch up for sale for $33 million.
In February, talk of a potential Kilmer run ramped up when he appeared at the Roundhouse during the legislative session, met with members of the state’s congressional delegation in Washington and hired a powerhouse public relations firm to handle communications and media for his potential gubernatorial campaign. But, since then, despite the fact that there had been rumors of listening tours and other activity, the chatter about Kilmer has been virtually nonexistent.
Is Kilmer selling his ranch to get out of New Mexico? To move to another property in the state? To raise cash to finance a gubernatorial run? Is it completely unrelated to his consideration of the political race?
The only answer right now: Time will tell.

Will Val run? Who cares? But if he gets that exorbitant price for the place, he will make an incredible profit over what was paid for it. Wonder if his neighbor Jane wants to sell her piece of the Forked Lightning Ranch too?
How come Val Kilmer grants no interviews? New Mexicans have no idea where this guy is coming from. He does not participate in any Democratic events - only visits the Roundhouse periodically for photo ops. Whenever we see Mr. Kilmer we should do as Bob Dylan does when he sees him and say to him: "Why Johnny Ringo, you look like somebody just walked over your grave." Dylan says that this drives Mr. Kilmer nuts.
Heath - I had an exclusive interview recently with Val Kilmer:
Hemingway: How would you describe yourself?
Kilmer: Very cosmopolitan
Hemingway: Have you begun your political campaign?
Kilmer: Nonsense, I have not yet begun to defile myself.
Hemingway: What is your opinion of Governor Richardson?
Kilmer: Make no mistake, it's not revenge he's after. It's a reckonin'.
Hemingway: What do you want to say to New Mexicans?
Kilmer: I'm your huckleberry
Hemingway: What would say to your possible opponent Lt. Gov. Denish
Kilmer: You're no daisy! You're no daisy at all. Poor soul, you were just too high strung. It's true, you are a good woman. Then again, you may be the antichrist.
Hemingway: Thanks
Kilmer: I apologize; I forgot you were there. You may go now
Hemingway : I will leave!
Where's Waldo? I mean "Where's Kilmer? Lo and behold, Mr. Val Kilmer was in Montreal on April 15and 16. He spoke before 2009 Montreal Milleniun Summit on global poverty. "Attending the third edition of this international summit are key
players in the field of social advocacy, representing governments, civil
society, academia and the world's leading humanitarian organizations." I guess Mr. Kilmer is an expert on global poverty. He probably learn about it on his $33 million ranch!
