Zanetti, Weh considering running for governor

Former U.S. Reps. Steve Pearce and Heather Wilson aren’t the only Republicans openly considering running for governor in 2010.
Greg Zanetti, an Albuquerque financial adviser and New Mexico National Guard brigadier general, is establishing an exploratory committee this week, he was quoted by the Albuquerque Journal as saying. And Allen Weh, former chairman of the Republican Party of New Mexico, indicated to the New Mexico Federated Republican Women at their state convention in Santa Fe on Friday that he plans to form an exploratory committee after the legislative session ends next month, sources with knowledge, including an attendee of the convention, confirmed.
Pearce and Wilson have been openly considering the race, and either would make a formidable candidate in a GOP primary. But there’s an opening for another candidate to make a strong case as an alternative to former elected officials who lost races in 2008 if he or she gets in early and builds a strong organization.
Zanetti, 50 and the husband of former state Rep. Teresa Zanetti, is ready to try.
“I strongly believe that we need to restore trust in government here in New Mexico,” he was quoted by the Journal as saying. “… I understand finance. I have worked in the financial sector for 22 years and know what needs to be done to restore prosperity to our pension funds and state finances.”
Zanetti, a former Bernalillo County GOP chair, ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor 15 years ago.
Weh, meanwhile, has a reputation as a strong fundraiser who helped the GOP keep up with the Democrats financially through the last few election cycles. However, under his watch, the GOP lost further control of state government and local governments in areas such as Las Cruces.
On the Democratic side, the only announced 2010 candidate for governor is Lt. Gov. Diane Denish, who has more than $1.75 million on hand already. Actor Val Kilmer has hired a public relations firm as he considers whether to jump into the primary race against Denish.

I think the more republicants that run the better. For me it was fun to watch Pearce beat up Heather Wilson. I think between Weh and Zanetti both military. It could be a knock down dragout ,good old fashioned Saturday night fight. If we think the state is in terrible shape now. Just elect obstructionist republicans with a "no new tax attitude" and by all means keeping the status quo. Hang on this is going to be a fun ride.
I pray that Allen Weh doesn't run for NM Gov. He was a tyrannical chair of the GOP NM and owes alot of favors to big donors in and out of the State. It was his lack of leadership that NM loss all three Congressional seats and the Senate seat and not giving clear guidance on running the "best" candidates. I believe that Heather Wilson should run for Governor as she has a more moderate view and is able to reach out to the moderates on both sides. Steve Pearce should run for his old Congressional Dist. 2 seat. He made alot of Republican upset when he decided to run for the Senate. The Grand Old Party has gotten OLD and needs to concentrate on new and important issues such as: taxes reduction, FISCAL Responsibility, education, healthcare, energy and food costs. The average household and alot of Republicans feel that bounding over and over and over the aboration and homosexual issues are not the reality that affects the majority of families. Religion should be left to the church and not a political party. People are hungry and cold and are suffering because of the lack of vision by both parties. Republicans its time to pull your heads out of sand and see the realities of life and the plight of the middle class families of NM and the USA. It's time for a GRAND OPEN PARTY one with new hope and vision.
Weh is a dictator that simple. He would be worse than Richardson. I hope he doesnt run it would be terrible for the republican party. He lacks leadership and the ability to work with others, its his way or no way and that cant work as a Guv. Besides most people that know him dont like him so where is he going to get any support? I also didnt see any big fundraising ability from him in the last two election cycles!
I also hope Wilson doesnt run, she runs with the same crowd as Weh. Hopefully the republican party will get a good candidate for Guv. I like and respect Steve Pearce but I really dont think he would be a the right candidate for Guv either.
