Kilmer hires powerhouse public relations firm

Val Kilmer has hired the Washington public relations firm McMahon, Squier & Associates to handle communications and media for his potential gubernatorial campaign, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed.
The move is a major step toward a gubernatorial run for an actor who has made a lot of noise about considering running for New Mexico governor in 2010 but taken no visible, concrete steps toward making it happen -- until now.
The hiring of the firm follows Kilmer’s visit to Washington, D.C. last week. While there, he met with political operatives and some members of the New Mexico congressional delegation.
McMahon Squier, according to the company’s Web site, specializes in communications, advertising production and strategic media placement. It’s one of the powerhouse firms in the Washington area, and clients listed on its Web site include the Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, a governor and two members of Congress and the League of Conservation Voters.
Kilmer is a registered Democrat, and he would face Lt. Gov. Diane Denish and possibly others in a primary next year.

It is sad if Val Kilmer runs for Governor. He has no clue about the problems of the average New Mexicans. He has never expressed an utterance about issues. Pretty Boy Val will be a disaster!
This is amazing - who is this clown other than a Hollywood wacko? Where has he shown any interest in the affairs of this State? Would somebody please show us that he has any understanding of this State's problems! The Governor's post isn't for the personal amusement of some B actor that has nothing better to do. We aren't a bunch of "little people" that needs the wondrous one to beam down and save us for our dreary little existence.
Its just amazingly and insulting that this guy would run off to DC, hire some high powered firm to descend on little old NM and shove him down out throats. Where is his base of support other than being one of Richardson's pals?
Please Val just leave us alone - we have enough problems to deal with. We don't exist for your idle amusement.
The first thing the firm should do is send a better photo of Kilmer to all the news media. This one of him smirking in a knit cap is a real turnoff.
Lt. Governor Denish looks a lot more like a movie star than Kilmer.
Here is a quote after Big Mouth Val Kilmer when asked how he spends his time in a 2003 interview with Rolling Stone magazine. "After talking about feeding the animals and going to the watering hole, he put on a country accent and said, 'We shoot the automatic weapons at the trespassers and people a different colour than us.' " This is an insult to all New Mexicans!!!!!!! When confronted he will probably say he was misquoted.
In response to comments on your blog, "Kilmer Hires Powerhouse Public Relations Firm", isn’t it unfair to discount Mr. Kilmer because he happens to be a successful actor? For years Mr. Kilmer has spent many hours lobbying behind the scenes for equal employment, freedom of speech and many more of the rights, issues and causes that affect all of us. Not only that, Mr. Kilmer has donated over a million dollars to various causes here in New Mexico including US Veterans, Native Americans, the Natural History Museum and The Wildlife Center.
Mr. Kilmer cares about all people from all walks of life. He has never been racist or prejudiced against anyone. Not only are Mr. Kilmer’s own beautiful children of mixed race, he is very proud of his own Native American heritage.
Thank you
