Wilson says sexism contributed to Hillary's loss

Hillary Clinton’s exit from the Democratic presidential primary this weekend prompted an interesting opinion piece published in the New York Times from New Mexico’s Heather Wilson.

In the brief letter, the Republican representative of the First Congressional District stated that the Democratic nominating system favors the most liberal candidate -- Barack Obama in this instance -- but “there is a second reason Hillary Clinton lost that some are reluctant to openly acknowledge: a latent and lamentable sexism. She lost because the superdelegates -- the Democratic establishment -- went against her.”

“She became a caricature: too smart, too strong, too assertive, too rational, too competent,” Wilson wrote. “Think how the young Harry Potter and his male friends initially reacted to Hermione Granger and you get the idea.”

Clinton put a more positive spin on her loss in the speech she gave this weekend conceding the race and announcing her support for Obama. She focused on the state contests she won and her success in mounting the most credible presidential campaign by a woman in American history.

“You can be so proud that, from now on, it will be unremarkable for a woman to win primary state victories, unremarkable to have a woman in a close race to be our nominee, unremarkable to think that a woman can be the president of the United States,” Clinton said. “And that is truly remarkable.”

Wilson lost the U.S. Senate Republican primary in New Mexico to Steve Pearce last week by about 3,000 votes, or 2 percent.

Hillary and Heather lost for one main reason...their campaigns did not peak at the right time. It was Hillary's to lose...and she did. Heather had to run her Senate campaign with a bad "hangover" from her judicial snooping.

Oh Heather, gimme a break.

You're just mouthing the Republican Desperation talking points in hopes that Hilary's supporters will forget the reasons they were for her in the first place and vote for a guy who has an abysmal record of voting against almost every piece of legislation benefitting women's (and minorities) issues.

Hilary's supporters may be loyal, but they are far from stupid.

Be careful all you male commenters - your gender bias is showing! None of us should even think about gender bias any more, however, with all the primary votes in a,dn the comments form many sides, gender bias was and will continue to be steeping stone for ALL SINCERE VOTERS TO CONSIDER IN UPCOMING ELECTIONS. All of us were born of mothers, who just happen to be females, and all of us live and work and communicate with females. Disregarding females, in any arena, is to show them bias. When will people in this country grow up? Even Barak Obama was born of a mother, a white mother. Playing the race card is easier than playing the gender card?

If a woman doesn't support Hillary I don't believe that you would deem her as gender biased, would you?So if a man doesn't support Hillary they are broad brushed as gender biased by guilt ridden apologists of both genders. So whom is really to be deemed as more intolerant, the male Hillary non supporter or supporters of Hillary seeking or fabricating excuses?People are weary of the Clinton/Bush dynasties, men & women alike!

I think it is very tough for any of the candidates who loose elections to talk about other candidates and why they lost. I keep a quote on my wall that says "if you spot it you got it" and I think that more accurately summarizes who Wilson is talking about.

The Democrats had a lot of people in the field who were too smart, too strong, too assertive, too rational and too competent. But, the Democrats only had one person in the field who was trying to perpetuate a dynasty and, effectively, running on the coat-tails of a family member. After having experienced the father and son jokers we were not about to have some new experience that Hillary and Bill wanted to bring, not only to the White House, but to our nation.

There are too many of us that simply shake our head at a congress that gave Bush the power to exercise the military might of this nation in the powder keg of the middle east. We shake our heads and say "that's not what our country is about." There are too many of us that shake our heads at what this president has caused and allowed to happen to this great nation. We shake our heads and say "that's not what our country is about." There are too many of us that shake our heads at a husband wife team trying to take the reigns of the presidency and do something that most of us don't even want to try and imagine. We shake our heads and said "that's not what our country is about."

Hillary Clinton did not loose because she is a woman she lost because she did not represent what the American Democratic party members believed America is about.
A whole lot of the American character is idealistic. We want leaders who represent to us that they can help this nation achieve our idealistic character.

Our votes on the national level compete to such a degree that some people do not believe their single vote can count or make any difference at all. The one chosen by the democratic party, real or not, helps people believe that each and every one of us counts. That's why he won.
