CD2 hopeful Sowards begins running radio ads

Posted 4/30/2008 10:20:00 AM

Republican 2nd Congressional District candidate Greg Sowards unveiled his first radio ad today, a 60-second spot that claims conservative principles “are always the answer.”

The ad is currently running on KOBE-AM 1450 in Las Cruces, Sowards said, and will run on other stations later.

In the ad, Sowards says he’s running for one reason: “to protect our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That’s it. My solution is simple too: conservative principles.” He says America’s founding fathers knew that “self determination and personal responsibility are the keys to America’s greatness. I share their vision and this has compelled me to step forward at this crucial time.”

Sowards ends the ad by saying he approved it “because it’s the truth.” You can listen to the full ad by clicking here.

Sowards has also covered Las Cruces in large campaign signs and billboards.

So what founding father is Mr. Sowards talking about Hamilton or Jefferson. The so-called founding fathers had a diverse view of what America meant. That is why we have 2 parties today. Mr. Sowards is using trite expressions that don't reflect reality. I suggest Mr. Sowards read some history or watch the HBO John Adams series for a better understanding of our past.

I'm so glad that Hemingway has "clarified" this discussion and made it clear that HBO is our source for all truth. What would we do without the media telling us exactly how it was back then.... hundreds of years ago?

Pulling the tongue out of my cheek, who can dispute that "self determination and personal responsibility are the keys to America’s greatness"? I don't think "trite" is quite how I would describe Mr. Sowards statements. Perhaps a better description would be "optimistic", "positive" or "a return to family values".... the concepts and terms of which this country seems to have forgotten.

Family values should encompass what is important to all families: Homeownership
Medical care
Education
Recreation

To talk about family values otherwise is meaningless dribble.

“I believe with Abraham Lincoln,” he asserted, “that 'the legitimate object of government is to do for a community of people whatever they need to have done but cannot do at all or cannot do so well for themselves in their separate and individual capacities.'

While rights to homeownership, medical care, education and recreation are all valid political topics, they are not family values and they are not all things that require the help of government beyond the support of our basic freedoms. Many are choosing self-funded alternative medicine over traditional medical care despite the governmental roadblocks on its progress. Many people are taking responsibility for the education of their own children because the public education system has been stripped of all that is good and has replaced it with politically correct and unwholesome counterfeits.

In regards to ACTUAL family values, how would it be "meaningless dribble" to discuss the issues of single parent homes due to divorce, addictions and teen pregnancy? Or what about moral disintegration due to drugs, gangs, media channels and lax societal standards? The family unit is the core unit of society from where individual strength, morals, values and personal identity stem from. There are so many things that are tearing families apart? Is it ALL the fault of the government? No, of course not. But if it is "meaningless dribble", as you put it, why has the government put so many organizations and committees in place to fight for these causes? More than one U.S. President has acknowledged that the breakdown of the American family is at the core of our political and societal issues.

The media, including HBO, would have you believe otherwise and would rather shower you with the "symptoms" of lost family values and label them as the "main issues" while ignoring the actual cause. As you have made clear by the mislabeled list of "family values", the government influenced media has done such a good job of ignoring the real issues so that they aren't even recognized as problems anymore.
